Veteran elite triathlete Vicky van der Merwe clues us in on finding her North Star and letting it guide her through the wins and losses of life.

WHILE THEY WERE LOADS OF FUN, Vicky didn’t show the sports she loved before – gymnastics, netball, hockey and athletics – the same amount of enthusiasm she did to combining three iconic forms of cardio (swimming, running and cycling). “I’ve always loved sport and from a very young age I tried everything,” recalls Vicky. In high school, Vicky excelled in inter schools athletics meets and took up running and swimming. Eventually, it snowballed into three disciplines, conveniently rolled into one event – the formidable triathlon.
