The arts have always benefitted from a little overlap- the magic that happens when mediums meet and each gains from the other. MÜVEK, a newly launched product design and furniture brand, embodies this beautifully-in more ways than one. The very definition of form meets function, it's the result of experts in different areas pooling their respective experience and skills. Architect Chris van Niekerk and his partner János Cserháti formed the concept some time ago, but the pieces took shape gradually.
'We have been discussing this since we met. And, as more designs started to take form digitally and conceptually, we decided to formalise the idea with the help of two of our friends' says János. Another catalyst for the formation of MÜVEK was an architectural project that Chris finalised in 2021, for which the clients also commissioned furniture, a process in which they gave him creative carte blanche. Much of the furniture was designed at the same time as I was working on the house,' says Chris. 'So, in a way, the furniture and house share a design sensibility and DNA.'
