WHEN it’s too cold and dark to garden, there’s little better than a good gardening read, maybe about your favourite plants or methods, a textbook or a biography of someone’s plot. Indeed, part of the joy of gardening is that there’s always something new to discover.

Our interest in gardening is a great cross-pollinator, as it overlaps with so many other areas. For example, if you’re also interested in travel and life in other places or times, then the journeys of the many plant hunters make for excellent reading. Likewise, as with myself, if you’re gardening because you love eating brilliant or unusual food, then there are so many other books awaiting.
