In late January, the Los Angeles-based artist Se Oh's solo show opened in the city's Stroll Garden gallery. The two-part exhibition was titled "Elegies" and featured a collection of hand-thrown, hand-painted vessels inspired by Korean burial ceramics-traditional totemic earthenware that is enclosed in the tombs of loved ones to aid their transition to the afterlife. Flowers native to California also adorn the vase-like structures, depicted with compact yet gestural strokes of cobalt oxide.
