STAFF MATTERS: Retaining The Stars!

Attrition is a fact of corporate life, and companies have to take it in their stride. However, that does not mean they should not take steps to retain star employees.

STAFF MATTERS: Retaining The Stars!

When you are blessed with good employees, you would, naturally, want to ensure they stay with you, and do not join your competitors. This is not always easy. It entails taking steps to make sure employees are not just comfortable, but also valued. Giving them a good remuneration, taking their opinions into account, listening to their grievances and addressing the same, and making sure they have growth prospects – these are some of the measures that retailers have to take in order to minimize attrition and retain talent.

THE ABC OF RETAINING TALENT
Says Mohinder Pal Singh, of New Light Jewellers, Ganganagar, Rajasthan, “It has never really happened with us that good employees leave and go elsewhere. The way we treat our staff, our workers, they just don’t feel the need to quit. But yes, we do take several steps to ensure they are happy working with us.

“For instance, we provide free lunch to all our workers, and our entire staff. We take them on outings and picnics twice a year. We remember them on their birthdays, and make sure we pay them a good salary. Our employees are the pillars of our organization, and we make them feel valued. Our employees also acknowledge that we take steps to take care of them.”
