It’s been 75 years since the Omega Seamaster first demonstrated its underwater prowess in 1948. It’s a significant milestone deserving of celebration, thus Omega is commemorating the diamond jubilee with the release of seven new models, with 11 watches in total. Running the gamut from dressy timepieces to serious diving companions, each watch share one distinctive design trait: the cool hue they dubbed Summer Blue.
It’s inspiration is obvious. With the Seamaster’s ties to underwater exploration and Omega’s continued commitment to ocean conservation, the Summer Blue is conceptualised to evoke “the pristine ocean on a perfect day.” And truly, it’s a gorgoues blue, the kind that beautifully captures the beckoning call of the open water, inviting exploration.
Apart from aesthetics, the cool hue also serves a function. It is applied in greater or lesser degrees on each new model, to relate to the depth-defying credentials of each Seamaster watch: on the Aqua Terra, the presence of Summer Blue represents the sun-drenched surface, on the Ultra Deep, the dark abyss.
