Dewy skin is still all the rage, and highlighters have only been adding fuel to that fire. It seems like we're all but looking for new places and points on our face that need a little highlight, and no one's complaining. A highlighter accentuates your face and makes it appear more structured, while ensuring the perfect sheen for your night time photographs. Here's a lowdown on using the best ones, and how to make them work for you.
The right highlighter for you
Liquid luminous drops, creamy luminisers, powder highlighters and more make their way into our vanities - but which works best, and for whom? The highlighter you use should depend on your base make-up if you want it to last, so that it's not too stark and subtly stands out. If your base is silicon or liquid, use a liquid luminizer or a cream highlighter, both of which would work better with the products on your face already. If your base is more powder-dominated rather than cream or liquid-heavy, use a powder highlighter.
You can opt for a highlighter that suits your skin type. If your skin is naturally oily and you feel more comfortable using powder highlighters, opt for those. If you have dry skin, heavy powder-based products could result in dry, flaky, or ashy-looking make-up, so pick products that offer hydration, and are essentially cream or liquid-based.
Where does the highlighter go
This question is always up for debate, and depends on the type of product you're using. Some like to add highlighter drops to their serum, foundation, or skin tint and apply it all over the face to achieve a even, luminous glow. Some like to focus on solely the high points of their face. Others go all out with body shimmer added to the mix as well. For those of us who need a 'highlighter for dummies' guide, here's the mandate:
