Time changes, but even through the changing eras, the Dhaliwals continue to live their lives in the same way as did their forefathers. The head of the family, Sardar Sher Sikander Singh still carries the legacy of his family with great pride and joy.
The Dhaliwal family comprises of Sardar Sher Sikander Singh, his wife, mother, son, his wife and two elder daughters who are now married. The Dhaliwal family resides in their ancestral Haveli in village Mankhera, situated in Mansa district of Punjab. The family traces its origins in village Uggo (Barnala), Punjab. It was from here that their forefather, Sardar Hari Singh Dhaliwal purchased two villages: Mankhera (district Mansa, Punjab) and Motsara (now in district Hisar, Haryana) with resources of his own, and made Mankhera his home. His son Sardar Harnam Singh was a decorated army officer and led the Cycle Battalion of the British Army. Sardar Harnam Singh won many awards, the most prestigious among which is the Victorian Cross. He built the Ancestral Haveli in Mankhera in 1855. His conscientious son Sardar Harmandir Singh Dhaliwal and grandson Sardar Gurpartap Singh Dhaliwal converted their large arid land into arable fields becoming the most successful landlords of the regions. Sardar Gurpartap Singh, was a forward-thinking man of his times who comprehended the value of education and thus marched to a different drummer by providing higher education not only to his sons, but daughters as well.
