Retro Hair Trends to try ASAP
Girls' Life magazine|February/March 2023
History doesn't have to be your best subject to know there's a throwback beauty resurgence happening right now. Overlined lips and thin brows? The '90s saw them first. Emo eyeliner and squared-off acrylics? Pure Y2K, baby. As for spring hair trends, the vibe headed back even farther to the '70s and '80s-just with fresh, modern takes. THE FARRAH FLOW

The secret to this flippy masterpiece is a lot of layers and a healthy dose of curtain bangs, says celebrity hairstylist Sarah Potempa. The Farrah Flow works on most hair lengths and face shapes (though curly cuties, fair warning: Layers like these enhance your texture).

MAKE IT YOURS: Potempa says to blow-dry your hair downward at the crown for major volume. Then, with a large barrel curling iron (try the Beachwaver Co. Beachwaver $1.25 Dual Voltage White Rotating Curling Iron, $149, beachwaver.com), roll hair up and away from your face, creating a feathery blend. Use Velcro rollers (like Drybar High Tops Self-Grip Rollers, $12 for 6, sephora.com) on your face-framing strands, allowing them to cool and set while you curl the rest (secure rollers with Harry Josh Pro Tools Makeup Wave Setting Clips, $25 for 6, harryjoshprotools.com). Finish by raking your fingers through the curls to break them apart, then add volume at the roots with texture powder (try DesignMe Puff. Me Volumizing Powder, $24, designmehair.com).
