Before you reach for that venti mocha...

It's a rare day when you see your fave influencers without a trifecta of bevs: one for fun, one for hydration and, of course, one for energy. Coffee has become one-third of TikTok's Three Drink Theoryand a giant Starbies cup is a must-have accessory for busy babes with packed planners who count on it to help get them through their to-do lists.

But the trouble with caffeine (the energy-boosting, natural compound derived from plants) is that once you start, it can be difficult to stop. "It's a drug that creates physiologic dependence. A few innocent Frapps can quickly turn teens into people who suddenly need a daily caffeine fix," says Dr. Ellen Vora.

According to recent research, approximately 83% of teens regularly consume caffeine, whether that's through a morning mug, an afternoon cold brew or a pre-practice Celsius.

But like any drug (and yes, it *is* a drug), caffeine can trigger some very sketchy side effects. It's time you know the truth about what caffeine does to your body-and what to do if you're already hooked.
