LOVING parents will do anything for their kids – there’s nothing unusual about that. But every now and then a parent goes above and beyond to help their offspring get a leg up in life.
And if anyone deserves a gold medal for doing just that, it’s this devoted dad from Mpumalanga.
Lucky Masango was so determined to help his aspiring fashion designer son that he stood at a busy traffic intersecsection in Centurion, Gauteng, holding up examples of the creations his boy had made.
One day he held aloft a denim skirt – and one motorist was so intrigued she stopped her car, rolled down her window and started a chain of events that could well change the course of a young man’s life.
Lucky told the driver, Lana Brunner, how he’d travelled from his home in Moloto to Centurion and was sleeping under a bridge to help his son, Nkosinathi Immanuel Moyo. “He explained he wasn’t trying to sell anything; he just wanted to show off his son’s clothes.”
Immanuel (21) was a budding fashion designer who’d taught himself how to sew and made the skirt using scraps of old denim. The family wanted him to go further but simply couldn’t afford to send him to fashion design school.
Lana (50) was so touched by the story she shared it on Facebook and set up an e-wallet account to raise funds for the family. The story spread like wildfire and pledges came pouring in from far and wide.
