PAWS for thought

FOR THE LOVE OF DOGS WITH ALISON HAMMOND
NEW TUESDAY, 8PM (TIMES VARY), ITV1 FACTUAL

The profound care and compassion that Paul O'Grady displayed towards the residents of Battersea Dogs & Cats Home during his 11 years at the helm of ITV's award-winning series Paul O'Grady: For the Love of Dogs knew no bounds.

But now, just over a year on from the much-loved presenter's sad passing in March 2023, both the rescue centre's gorgeous pooches and the dedicated staff who nurture them have a new and equally besotted advocate in Alison Hammond.

As TV Times catches up with the Great British Bake Off and This Morning presenter for an exclusive chat about six-part series For the Love of Dogs with Alison Hammond, it's clear she is thrilled to be carrying on Paul's sterling work as she immerses herself in life at Battersea and helps to find forever homes for more deserving canines.

"This was about continuing Paul's legacy but putting my own spin on the show,' reveals Alison, 49, who is always a lovely interviewee. 'I got really attached to the dogs you can't help it! And going to Battersea is so therapeutic and calming. It's been a wonderful experience.' Here, as she picks up the lead, Alison shares her doggy tales...

How did you feel when you were asked to take over as the host of this show?

I was flattered and honoured. I jumped at the opportunity because I knew it would be a lovely thing to do. Battersea's a wonderful charity and this programme needed to continue for them, because they've got so many challenges taking care of these dogs, so it was important.
