CALL THE MIDWIFE LAST ONE SUNDAY, 8PM, BBC1 DRAMA
With her buttoned-up suits, precisely pinned hat and immaculate filing system, caring, if mildly terrifying, Miss Millicent Higgins has become an integral part of Call the Midwife. But when TV Times catches up with
Georgie Glen, who has played the prim doctor’s receptionist since 2018, for an exclusive video interview, the delightfully chatty star couldn’t be more different from her firm but fair alter ego.
‘Miss Higgins is slightly acerbic and judgemental, and she takes herself seriously. But I admire her discipline,’ beams Georgie, 67, whose previous credits include Heartbeat and Waterloo Road. ‘I’m a very chaotic person. Clutter grows around me!’
This week, however, as the 13th series of the BBC1 period drama draws to a close, a more vulnerable side to the usually unflappable Miss Higgins emerges when she receives a shocking blast from her past after a surprise visitor delivers startling news that leaves her reeling.
Here, Georgie teases the top-secret storyline and shares some insights into the wonderful world of her fanfavourite character…
What did you think when you read the script for this week’s episode?
Heidi Thomas, the show’s creator and writer, said, ‘I hope you like this storyline.’ But she didn’t say more! So when the script landed, I opened it with trepidation and it was left field and unexpected.
