BEYOND PARADISE
GOOD FRIDAY, 8PM
(TIMES VARY), BBC1 DRAMA

Launching a Death in Paradise spin-off series far away from its idyllic Caribbean setting was a risky prospect. But BBC1’s quirky West Country crime drama Beyond Paradise proved an instant hit with viewers when it made its debut earlier this year.

We’ve watched DI Humphrey Goodman (Kris Marshall) and his fiancée, Martha Lloyd (Sally Bretton), begin a new chapter in their lives by moving to her home town of (fictional) Shipton Abbott, start a business and make some emotional decisions about their relationship. Now, in the series finale, the couple face big questions about their future.

In an exclusive interview, Tim Key, executive producer of both Beyond Paradise and Death in Paradise, tells TV Times what lies ahead…

What can we expect from this week’s instalment?

There’s a lot going on! It’s got a great puzzle at its heart, as always, and Zahra Ahmadi, who plays DS Esther Williams, is absolutely on fire in it.

It’s the culmination of a series full of serial stories, and it’s genuinely heartbreaking at times. I think it really rewards the journey everyone’s been on.

There’s still a lot to be resolved for Martha and Humphrey…

Yes, we were definite from the start that we wanted to take everything that people knew about Death in Paradise, but do something a bit different.
