TRUE DETECTIVE: NIGHT COUNTRY NEW MONDAY, 9PM, SKY ATLANTIC & SKY SHOWCASE DRAMA

With its complex storytelling and chilling themes, critics lauded True Detective as a bold new take on the TV crime thriller when it first aired on Sky Atlantic in 2014.

The US anthology drama has featured a fresh cast and story in each of its three series, with stars including Woody Harrelson and Colin Farrell playing sleuths investigating sinister murders.

Yet none of the previous cases has been as dark as the six-part fourth instalment, True Detective: Night Country, which sees Jodie Foster take centre stage in a journey through the endless night of an Alaskan winter.

STRANGE DISAPPEARANCE

The series follows the fallout after eight men operating the Tsalal Arctic Research Station mysteriously vanish. It’s a shock for the residents of the (fictional) nearby town of Ennis, and police chief Liz Danvers, played by Jodie, is called on to investigate, but the indigenous Inupiaq community, who are in tune with the hostile landscape, believe dark spirits might be at work.
