Combining action, futuristic technology and laugh-out-loud moments, the first two series of cop comedy Code 404 were a hit with viewers. So it’s no surprise that the show’s returning for a third run, with AI-enhanced DI John Major (Daniel Mays) and DI Roy Carver (Stephen Graham) taking on their toughest case yet.
Airing in double bills, the series opens with Major and Carver put on limited duties by DCS Dennett (Rosie Cavaliero) pending an enquiry into their last investigation, which ended with Major’s gangster father Clifford being shot dead.
But when one of the Special Investigations Unit’s officers is murdered, the pair discover they’re dealing with a twisted serial killer. And it doesn’t help that ‘robocop’ Major has been hacked, leading to crucial evidence being leaked.
As both Carver and Major try to move on from Major’s ex-wife Kelly (Anna Maxwell Martin), who Carver had an affair with, forensic psychologist Sarah McAllister (Vinette Robinson) is brought in on the case – but her presence looks set to cause another rift.
