Geri Halliwell-Horner appears on Zoom from her home in England, a few minutes behind schedule for her People interview."My daughter is why I was late," she explains with a smile. "She won an award for her poetry at school, and I plonked myself at the edge [to leave early], and then I thought, 'You know what? I really need to stay for the whole thing.""
A'90s pop superstar as the Spice Girls' fiery Ginger Spice, Halliwell-Horner says her "perspectives and priorities changed" when she became a mom to daughter Bluebell, 17, with ex Sacha Gervasi, and son Monty, 6, with her husband of eight years, Christian Horner, 49, the principal (i.e., manager) of Red Bull's Formula One racing team. She's also stepmom to Horner's daughter Olivia, 10. While her life looks a lot different from her "Wannabe" days, Halliwell-Horner, 51, is often reminded of her past. "At the school ceremony all the girls had these '90s baggy trousers and chunky trainers," says the singer, who defined that era of fashion with her signature Ginger Spice funk. (Who could forget her Union Jack dress?) "Everything is cyclical."
That's not a hint at another Spice Girls reunion tour. Right now she's busy as a mom and author. After writing several children's books, she's launching a new middle-grade series with Rosie Frost & the Falcon Queen, about an orphan whisked away to a mysterious school. "I'm grateful for all my chapters," she says. "I'm enjoying each one for what they are, and I feel very lucky."
