Put The 'Fun' Into Function

Loving what you do or feeling happy in your workplace depends on a lot of factors, such as being able to pursue a career you want, having a good boss and colleagues, being adequately remunerated, and having a decent work environment. But, even with all these going well for you, the onus of finding joy in your work rests on you alone. And finding joy is important because it will ultimately drive you towards excellence!

Here are some tips to help:

  • No matter what your job is, know that it has meaning. Realise that the tasks you complete benefit the company or other people.
  • Request more responsibilities at work and see tasks through to completion - this can trigger satisfaction.
  • Set personal goals for yourself and work towards achieving them.
  • Be nice to coworkers, mingle with them, have lunch together, go out for team events.
  • Take advantage of office perks such as free lunches or discounts on bills, commute offers, or on shopping websites.
  • Sign up for virtual learning modules, seminars, conferences, etc. This will help you upskill and gain exposure.
  • Keep your desk neat and organised.
  • Decorate the space with knick knacks to personalise it and keep yourself motivated.
  • Eat healthy food, keep snacks on hand for between meals, stay hydrated, treat yourself once in a while.
  • Use your paid leaves to give yourself the break you deserve.
  • Strike a work-life balance by creating healthy boundaries.
  • Lastly, get enough sleep, manage stress, exercise regularly, and you'll be fine.
