Tina Turner once spoke about how she would like to be remembered. “My legacy is that I stayed on course … from the beginning to the end because I believed in something inside of me.” Truer words have never been spoken.
In her death, she will be remembered as a trailblazer, a feminist icon, the queen of rock ‘n’ roll and one hell of a dancer. Her songs will also be remembered as some of the greatest, and her sequin-adorned frocks as outfits that inspired a new generation of songstresses like Beyoncé.
Turner passed away on May 24 at her home in Switzerland after a long battle with illness, with her beloved husband and partner of four decades, Erwin Bach, by her side. She was 83.
Beyoncé, who duetted ‘Proud Mary’ alongside Turner for the singer’s final performance, paid tribute to the woman who inspired her career.
