MATT SHIRVINGTON - A new dawn

More than two decades after Matt Shirvington donned the green and gold at the Sydney 2000 Olympics, the former athlete is undeniably winning at life. While an Olympic medal may have remained elusive for the track star, he’s achieved something equal to gold in his second career: scoring the top job on Australian TV.

Replacing David ‘Kochie’ Koch, who has spent 21 years as the host of Channel 7’s flagship breakfast show, Sunrise, was never going to be an easy feat. But the veteran journalist feels he is leaving his legacy in a safe pair of hands, telling Shirvington he “would be sensational” when the news was announced live on air on June 5.

“It was Kochie’s endorsement that made me most emotional,” Shirvington exclusively tells WHO. “He told me I was going to have the time of my life and that I am the perfect fit for the job. That meant so much.”
