Whether you're grabbing green bags when shopping or have switched to solar, sustainability is quickly becoming a norm in our daily lives. But it doesn't have to stop at home - we should try to employ sustainability even when we switch to holiday mode. While business class flights and daily hotel laundry services can make eco-consciousness that little bit harder, science commentator and environmentalist Laura Wells (@iamlaurawells) offers her easy tips...

1 COMMUTE CONSCIOUSLY

"Your mode of transport will typically have the biggest carbon footprint," says Wells. Generally, trains and buses are better than air travel. The aviation sector currently accounts for about two per cent of the world's carbon emissions.

"Direct flights are more fuel-efficient than connecting flights and economy has a lower carbon footprint than business or first class," Wells says. However, if you need to fly, Wells explains to look for air carriers with carbon offset projects.
