BROOKE SHIELDS IS OPENING UP LIKE NEVER BEFORE ABOUT HER CONTROLLING, ALCHOLIC MOTHER, BEING SEXUALLY ASSAULTED IN HER 20S AND WHAT SHE TELLS HER TWO DAUGHTERS ABOUT USING THEIR VOICES.
I'M A SURVIVOR

Mom Duty

Unlike her own mother, Brooke says she's raising daughters Rowan (left) and Grier to own their power. "They have their own opinions and they voice them," she says. In fact, the girls were shocked by some of what they learned about their mom from the doc!

DURING a 1970s appearance on a television talk show, a young and visibly uncomfortable Brooke Shields did her best to smile and politely answer host Mike Douglas' questions as he continued to fawn over her while her manager mother Teri, beamed beside her. "You really are an exquisite-looking young lady," he gushed, before asking the audience, "Isn't she a pretty girl?"

The disturbing clip is just one of many featured in Brooke's new Hulu documentary, Pretty Baby, which chronicles her journey as a child model and actor who was prematurely sexualized and exploited by Hollywood and her alcoholic stage mom. "Sometimes I'm amazed that I survived any of it," the 57-year-old author marvels at one point. As a mother of two teen girls (she shares Rowan, 19, and budding model Grier, 16, with her husband of 22 years, director Chris Henchy), Brooke is now determined to protect her kids from the pain she endured in the public eye. "She's always wanted to shield her daughters from the spotlight," source tells Star. "She's tried to instill values like honesty, respect and courage, and has taught them to really value themselves above all else."
