Three years in and the Prince of Wales’ Earthshot Prize continues to go from strength to strength. At the annual awards ceremony in Singapore last week, William showcased why his 10-year environmental project will be his greatest lasting legacy as he joined some of the biggest Hollywood A-listers to announce this year’s five winners. They were chosen by the Earthshot Prize Council which includes Sir David Attenborough.
Leading the glittering line-up as co-hosts were the glamorous star of the M&S Christmas advert, actress Hannah Waddingham, and This Is Us actor Sterling K Brown. They were joined by other celebrities including movie icon Cate Blanchett and Robert Irwin – son of the late Australian conservationist, Steve Irwin – who presented awards. Bastille and One Republic performed at the event.
Prince William took centre stage throughout the four-day visit and looked very comfortable doing so, noticeably more at ease in the solo spotlight – something people have commented about more than once since he took on his current role.
While William looked every inch the dashing statesman in his green velvet blazer by Alexander McQueen, his inclusion of some of the biggest and most popular celebrities added an extra touch of allure to the evening. It also allowed the awards to reach across the generations, former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond points out.
