Rachel is a penniless single mum with a troubled past and a violent ex-boyfriend in new four-part drama Too Good To Be True. But Kara Tointon still managed to find an aspect of her character’s life that made her feel a tiny bit jealous.
“Rachel takes her son to work with her. I left my sons behind in England when I filmed Too Good To Be True in Dublin and that was hard,” admits Kara, who is mum to Frey, five, and Helly, three, from her relationship with ex-fiancé, Marius Jensen.
She adds, “The longest period we had apart was two weeks and I really don’t know how actors who have young families can commit themselves to back-to-back projects, the kind which involve working away from home for weeks even months on end. I just couldn’t spend that much time apart from my boys. Two weeks was bad enough, I’d miss them far too much.”
Kara, 40, was at least able to FaceTime her sons during the making of the edge-of-the-seat thriller, which also stars Downton Abbey ’s Allen Leech.
“Every morning, before we filmed scenes for the day, I would talk to them while I was having my make-up applied. The people in the make-up department got to know my children really well!”
