A SHAKEN Katie Couric thought she’d received a death sentence after being slammed with a breast cancer diagnosis — because a frightening list of her relatives had already lost their battle with the killer disease!
“I felt sick, and the room started to spin,” the 65-yearold former Today show host admitted after being told the results of a mammogram. “The heart-stopping, suspended animation feeling I remember all too well came flooding back.”
Katie’s first husband, Jay Monahan, died in January 1998 at the age of 42 after a heartbreaking battle with colorectal cancer. Her mother-in-law Carol died of ovarian cancer the following year, and her sister Emily passed away in October 2001 at age 54 from pancreatic cancer.
