Less than 24 hours earlier, his wife the Princess had announced in a heartfelt video message that her chemotherapy for cancer had finished and that she was looking forward to returning to work with a handful of engagements in the autumn.
As the Prince, 42, accepted dozens of cards addressed to his wife, he said: "Thank you very much; very much appreciated." He also showed off his developing Welsh-language skills, which he has been honing on language app DuoLingo, replying in some instances: "Diolch," meaning: "Thank you." Speaking to one well-wisher, 74-year-old Pauline Thomas, William said of his wife's health update: "It's good news, but there is still a long way to go." In Kate's video, she said that her "path to healing and full recovery is long" and that she was "taking each day as it comes".
