CAPT DC SEKHAR, CEO AND FOUNDER OF ALPHAMERS LTD AND BETA TANK ROBOTICS PVT LTD, MASTER MARINER AND EGMP IIM (BANGALORE)
You have a background as an exmerchant Navy Captain. How did your experiences in that field influence your decision to develop robotic solutions for tank cleaning?
Merchant Navy gives you the experience that books cannot teach. A small group of people transporting a large quantity of cargo, often hazardous, operating the huge mobile asset with all elements of a mini town, with everything from Light & Power to sewerage systems and hotel services. The ship life indeed teaches you a lot. Without this real world experience, it is difficult to understand the design requirements for any solution for shipboard applications.
Actually, I decided to develop a robot almost thirty years ago while I was myself inside ships tank and overseeing tank cleaning. Even back then, I believed, buckets and pneumatic winches were no way to remove sludge from tanks, when the world was flying rockets to space. The time to act upon my dream came couple of years ago, when an oil company offered to fund the robotic technology development.
Your academic background includes studies in finance management and executive general management. How have these areas of study contributed to your role as the founder and director of AlphaMERS Ltd.?
