The Competition (Amendment) Bill, 2022(Bill) was introduced in Lok Sabha on August 5, 2022. It seeks to amend the Competition Act, 2002(The Act). following are key areas addressed by this Bill:

In this article we have summarized abovementioned proposed amendments by Competition Amendment Bill 2022.

Regulation of combinations based on transaction value:

Section 5 of the Act covers provisions relating to regulation of combination where it proposes to insert following: -

'Value of Transaction':- If the value of any transaction or 'deal value' in connection with acquisition of any control, shares, voting rights or assets of an enterprise, merger or amalgamation etc., exceeds €2,000 crore, it would require filing before CCI, provided that the enterprise has substantial business operations in India, which may be specified through regulations.
