Embraer: Not the right time for next-generation turboprop
Cruising Heights|January 2023
Embraer has scrapped plans time to go ahead with its next-generation turboprop (NGTP) at least for the moment.
Embraer: Not the right time for next-generation turboprop

It was a project that had created quite a stir when first announced since it offered a quieter and more comfortable passenger experience than the current turboprop offerings. There is a sense of disappointment in the larger aviation community at the Embraer announcement.

News of the delay came just days after Embraer said that it will focus sustainable aircraft studies on hybrid-electric and hydrogen fuel cell 19- and 30-seat regional airliners as part of its ongoing Energia programme. However, the various Energia concepts are targeted at potential entry-into service in the 2030-2035 timeframe, rather than the 2028-2029 period targeted for the initial NGTP models.
