According to construction equipment manufacturers, backhoe loader sales have averaged around 45,000 units per year pre-covid. During covid, it went down, but it has started picking up again. Manufacturers are optimistic that sales can go back to 40,000 to 45,000 units per year. There is a rise in demand for backhoe loaders due to an increase in small construction projects. Rapid urbanisation and industrialisation have aided the growth of backhoes. The investment in infrastructure that the Indian government agreed to make is expected to push the sales of backhoe loaders further in India. ICEMA also reported that the Indian construction equipment industry clocked strong YoY sales growth of 23% in the third quarter of the current fiscal year (Q3 FY23).
Manish Handa, sr. VP & business head – EED, Action Construction Equipment (ACE), says, “Our core value proposition is to offer “value-for-money products”. Our backhoes offer huge savings to customers in upfront purchase price and operating cost with a savings of up to Rs 10 lakh over a 4-year loan tenure, making them a profitable investment. This is the reason that despite backhoe market de-growing over last year, we expanded our customer base and have grown - both in terms of volume and market share.”
