Tackling a building's mid-life crisis

Commercial Design brings together eminent practising minds from the field of office building design and operations management to address an open forum at the Upcycling & Transforming Workplaces Summit
Tackling a building's mid-life crisis

In a continued effort that looks into the creation of contemporary and efficient workplaces in accordance with the principles of sustainability, the Commercial Design magazine, in collaboration with our ‘Knowledge Partner’, WiREnet, presented yet another successful forum in Bengaluru last month, titled ‘Upcycling & Transforming Workplaces’. The conference was conceptualised on the premise of “tackling a building’s mid-life crisis”.

For many buildings in the modern world—particularly the big office towers that make up much of the square footage of cities across India—things start to deteriorate around the 50-year mark. The buildings remain structurally sound, but their infrastructure verges into obsolescence. This is when projects and facility management teams must evaluate the cost of action. But they also have to evaluate the cost of inaction. The first edition of the forum witnessed great minds from workplace construction, project, and facilities management fraternity sit together to discuss the playbook of programmatic interventions to help offices try to combat and tackle their declining infrastructural performance.

Bibhor Srivastava, Managing Director, ITP Media Group (India), initiated the conference with his opening address, which was then followed by a welcome address by Aquib Jawed, Regional Head, AFC Furniture Solutions.
