<p>Trucks and more importantly truck drivers play an important role in India&rsquo;s transport sector as they help get countless materials from one end of the country to another which helps keep everyday supplies going in cities. That said, the drivers are subjected to long hours and work in extreme conditions which runs the risk of&nbsp;fatigue and potential accidents. Fortunately, there is some respite on the way as Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari has approved a proposal to make AC cabins a mandatory feature for all trucks in India from 2025 onwards.</p>

<p>This decision comes on the back of Nitin Gadkari pointing out the extreme working conditions truck drivers have been subjected to for some time and the transport ministry at the time has proposed this move back in 2016, albeit with some pushback regarding higher costs. Currently, the likes of Volvo and Scania, major players as global truck manufacturers already have AC cabins in their high-end trucks. Unfortunately, some Indian truck manufacturers still need to introduce this on lower-end trucks. This compulsion is a much-needed humane action as not only does having air-conditioned cabins help ease the struggles drivers face in extreme conditions but also help reduce fatigue which in turn, makes avoiding accidents that much easier.</p>
