As a country, we have been enthusiastic about EV adoption, especially when it comes to electric scooters. However, homegrown scooters are few and far between, that is if you discount the Chinese knockoffs sold here. Ampere now joins the elite club of homegrown electric two-wheelers with its Primus electric scooter. The Primus is Ampere's flagship product and its first indigenously-developed electric scooter under Greaves Mobility. The Primus focuses on being a balanced family scooter and on paper, comes across as a well-engineered, value-formoney package. However, the real world is a finicky place with many challenges. How well does the Primus fare then?
Unlike most homegrown premium EVS, the Primus sticks to a conventional scooter design. That's not a bad thing, as the overall design looks clean and elegant and is one that should age well. The front looks premium with large turn indicators and a sleek LED headlamp. The side profile is similar to conventional petrol-powered scooters save for the high-set floorboard that holds the battery pack. It even gets a faux exhaust cover on the right side. The metal grab rail is quite useful and well-finished too.
