THE weeks leading up to Brashernats 2022 saw Sydney slammed by torrential rain, floods and galeforce winds. But as luck would have it, the event itself was blessed with stunning blue skies. An 8000plus crowd, which spanned the entire Sydney Dragway amphitheatre, lapped it all up and were treated to what I reckon was the finest burnout spectacular the venue had ever hosted.
The list of competitors was long and distinguished, and from as far afield as Queensland, South and Western Australia. Around 80 per cent of the cars were blown and injected, and the standard of burnouts was so impressive it would have been a struggle for Aaron Mackley and his seasoned team of judges to rank them.
With so many supercharged cars dominating burnout the competitions nationwide, there has been a growing appetite for hard-hitting aspirated rides mixing it with the blown benteights. One of the early standouts at Brashernats was Josh Rendall in his aspirated XD Falcon, CANFRY. The screaming Clevo hit the high notes from the get-go, and Rendall ticked all the boxes with great smoke and use of the pad.
Josh was soon outclassed by fellow aspo contestant Andrew Lynch, who produced yet another world-class burnout in his mighty KE Corolla, LYNCHY, gunning it so hard it threatened to tip over. The little Corolla was like a spinning top buzzing around the pad, and Lynchy's display of big smoke and superb driving had the crowd on their feet.
