THE DIRECTOR'S CUT

Not every pic can make the main eCoty feature. These are the shots that evo's art editor couldn't bear to leave on the cutting room floor

THE DIRECTOR'S CUT

Maserati-led procession by Andy Morgan

This was a contender for the final shot of the main part of the test, and had the Maserati not won it probably would have been, but the MC20 is prominent here and not so much on the pulled-back version we went with. You have to be mindful of telling a story and not overexposing certain cars, so for that reason alone it missed the cut. On the initial edit, I earmarked this as a potential 'poster' shot and it was one of those to which my pre-editing gut gave a five-star rating on Adobe Bridge. It looks like a painting, it's got an aggression about it, and it shows the MC20 leading. It's the sort of instinctive shot that Andy Morgan is very good at capturing.

Solo McLaren by Andy Morgan

Again, another image I'd put aside as a potential poster, but once again it missed the cut purely on the basis of there being another shot of a different car in a similar situation. I love the isolation of it, the big sky, big hills and small car. The light in particular really highlights and reveals what can only be a McLaren. You can only really use pullback scenics like this at a large size; they just don't work small. The gift and curse of doing an eCoty layout means you have to have variety. If this were a single-car test, I wouldn't hesitate to open with it.
