The cultural capital of God’s own country is swelling with pride and adores one of its children. She is a free spirited girl, who turned to being a daughter in every family and a dream girl to every youngster! Needless of a formal introduction, she’s the current sensation of the southern half of the country – Helen Nelson, known to the world as Oviya, modelturned-actress and people’s favourite contestant of Bigg Boss! Nithya Ravindran chats up with the bubbly actress to get acquainted with her real self, which she realises in no different from what’s seen on screen.

Oviya is filled with an aura of positivity and why not, she ensures she brushes away even a grain of anything that’s got an iota of pessimism in it! Love and support poured in for her more than any other contestant of Bigg Boss, one of the most popular Tamil shows ever aired on TV. People even say that had she continued her journey in the Bigg Boss house, Oviya would definitely have emerged as the winner!
Hailing from a small town in Kerala called Thrissur, Oviya reminisces her childhood fondly, giving a huge credit to her father for what she is today – bold, beautiful and distinct! "My father gave me all the freedom I needed and taught me to go against the current, if I felt it was right! He was a free-thinker and so am I", says Oviya, when asked about her days before stardom. A Functional English graduate from a renowned college in Thrissur, the bold star always believed in being independent from her young days. "Right from my 10th standard I wanted to earn my own pocket money and not trouble my parents for it. That’s how I started modelling", recollected Oviya. With no interest to slog all her life, opting for vocational courses was not even a dot on her remotest of ideas ever! She started her film career as an actress by playing supporting roles in various movies in Malayalam. Director A Sarkunam, who cast her in ‘Kalavani’ gave her the first big break, post which she’s acted in many movies in Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi. However, her turning point in life happened to be Bigg Boss.
