In ancient days also, even while living in jungles, people cared for physical development. But it followed a need-based natural path based on practical demands or survival. People learned to walk, run, crawl, jump, catch, climb, swim, balancing etc. to get basic needs – food and survival in danger transition from nomadic life to farming life led to more demanding physical fitness for activities like farming, cattle raising and family chores.
Traditional fitness: Even nowadays many people have their own traditional fitness funda like walking, jogging, swimming, cycling. No problem, it’s good if it is working. But there is a big population of fitness enthusiasts – particularly youngsters and professionals in the age group of 20-35 years – who are focussed on good looks, and building a fit and toned body. Some also join it to avoid stress and lifestyle-related problems and to balance between personal and professional life.

The 20th century saw huge industrialisation changes in the field of lifestyle, sports and workplace. This gave a spurt to the need for physical fitness and fitness became an industry in itself.
