Almost one in six New Zealanders have some form of hearing loss. Specialist Michelle Lawson explains the common signs and how it can be managed.
COMMON SIGNS
“The first signs of hearing loss are often apparent to partners or other loved ones before the person themself realises they are affected,” says Michelle. “Common signs are difficulty hearing people talking on the telephone, difficulty hearing in noisy environments, [TV or device] volume is often on full, asking people to speak up, speaking too loudly and often misunderstanding what people say.”
