We shouldn’t sweat the small stuff, but it turns out zeroing in on the simple things in life can be a great mindfulness technique. Nancy Sokarno, a psychologist at Lysn, explains how the awe method can help you.
What is it?
“The awe method can reduce feelings of stress, anxiety and a range of other mental health concerns by conjuring up a ‘sense of awe’, or a feeling akin to wonder or surprise,” says Nancy. “Feeling ‘in awe’ isn’t a new thing, but the discovery that it can have mental health benefits is.”
She says there are plenty of studies revealing that the awe method may help boost health and wellbeing by reducing feelings of stress, anxiety, loneliness and depression.
How does it help?
“So far, psychologists and researchers have found that after experiencing awe, people can feel they have more time and are part of something bigger,” Nancy explains.
