WE’RE CARNIVAL ROYALTY!

WE’RE CARNIVAL ROYALTY!

Should there be a Golden Dagwood Dog award for recognition of Australian carnival royalty, there is no doubt the Evans family would win it hands down.

When Josh and Jade Evans met at a show and fell in love, they linked together two of the most influential and long-standing carnival and show families in Australian history.

CARNY TRADITION

Josh’s parents and grandparents were all carnival people, travelling on what was known as show trains all over the country – as many places they visited didn’t have roads – before World War II.

“They actually brought Dagwood Dogs to Australia,” Jade says of her husband’s family. “They ran the first ever mobile food trucks in Australia, right back in the 1930s when gas machines used to spin the fairy floss because there wasn’t any power.”

As for her own family, Jade’s carnival lineage is equally as impressive!

“My grandfather Frank Foster is a showman legend, an acrobat and a spruiker who would work what was known as tent shows in town halls all over the country. My pop managed acts such as Slim Dusty, Johnny O’Keefe, Normie Rowe, Chad Morgan,” she says.

“My dad Charlie is just the same, a great all-round entertainer and trick horse rider, who also ran the famous jolly giant and is known as one of Australia’s best spruikers.”
