GET COMFY WITH SOME COMFREY
Battling back pain? “In most cases, backaches are caused by muscle aches that are sometimes aggravated by arthritis,” says Dr Jacob Teitelbaum, internist and author of The Fatigue And Fibromyalgia Solution (Avery Publishing, $27.99).
If that combination sounds like the source of your woes, try using the herb comfrey topically. Creams are available from health food shops and pharmacies.
“Applying it to your back is like making your muscles sigh a relieving ‘Ahh’,” says Dr Teitelbaum. “The cream works on back pain by lowering inflammation. It can even accelerate the healing of broken bones.”
This explains why comfrey has the nickname of “knit bone”, and has been a popular remedy since the time of the Roman Empire.
