Refreshing, peaceful and INSPIRING

Walking became a vital and accessible pleasure last year, and many of us owe a debt of gratitude to The Ramblers charity. Since 1935, it has encouraged walking, protected and promoted our amazing heritage of footpaths, and campaigned for our right to roam over wilderness in the UK, with volunteers who maintain paths, lead walks and help build a community.

‘Walking gives you a glow’

Lucy Wallace, 46, from the Isle of Arran.

In my day job, I’m a mountain leader and wildlife guide. A year ago, I became the first-ever female president of Ramblers Scotland. It’s an incredible opportunity to help people enjoy the wild places that make me feel so happy and healthy.

Ramblers walks are special. They’re sociable, friendly, fun and suitable for all abilities.

Walking with other people is such a lovely thing to do – it gives you a glow. I love the views and the fact that doing exercise means I can eat as much cake as I want!

I’m so happy to be a Rambler and add my voice to their great work.

Lucy’s favourite walk: For a gentle, 4.8-mile circuit with stunning scenery and wildlife, try Glen Rosa, a beautiful valley in the northern hills of the Isle of Arran.
