A WEEKEND AWAY IN…KRAKOW

WHY GO?

Its historic districts, grand galleries, buzzy bars and restaurants all make this southern Polish city a fantastic cultural weekend getaway. Only a two-hour flight away, Krakow’s beautiful architecture was mostly undamaged during World War Two and it was awarded a UNESCO World Heritage listing in 1978. Also, prices are among the lowest in Europe, with the cost of an average cup of coffee just 97p.

WHAT TO SEE

Krakow’s focal point is the Market Square, dating from 1257 and is one of Europe’s largest. After admiring the twin-towered St Mary’s church and Town Hall Tower, wander through the impressive Cloth Hall – its ground floor is a hive of activity, with stallholders selling every kind of souvenir. Loved-up romantics can see the city’s sights from one of the white antique horse-drawn carriages lining the square and travel along cobbled streets in fairy-tale style.
