Deepa Rajan speaks to Amal Al Zadjali, Senior Specialist for Communication External Liaison & CSR at AER (The Authority for Electricity Regulation) on books, law, child safety and more…

Deepa Rajan
Setting An Example

When Amal Al Zadjali was 12, her father gave her a book to read that she vaguely remembers, but what it did do was make sure that she developed a passion for books and reading became her favourite hobby; something she loves to do when she is not busy dealing with legal complexities or saving the world, one child and road at a time.

Amal, a law graduate from Qatar University, is a licensed international arbitrator.

She is also a social activist for child safety. Amal founded the Awladna campaign for children road safety 2008 and was nominated as a road safety champion by the Globe Road Safety partnership (Geneva 2010).

Even in her current position as Senior Specialist for Communication External Liaison & CSR at AER (The Authority for Electricity Regulation) Amal has managed a special campaign for the Authority about children safety from electricity's dangers and continues to actively campaign for the cause.

The Woman spoke to Amal about her job as a lawyer, her social activism, her love for reading and more …

ON BEING A LAWYER

WHAT PROMPTED YOU TO STUDY LAW AND WAS IT A CHOICE THAT WAS SUPPORTED OR THERE WERE OBJECTIONS TO IT?

“I chose to study law because I wanted to learn something interesting that related to almost everything we do in our day to day lives. When I first decided to pursue my career as a lawyer, the first person I told was my mother. She supported me and advised me to do what I love. I would not have achieved anything in my life without her unwavering support.”

WHAT IS YOUR CURRENT ROLE AND HOW HAS YOUR EDUCATION PLAYED A ROLE IN IT?
