Miriama Kamo is on a mission – or, in fact, several! The popular journalist is juggling so many projects, it’s hard to imagine how she manages to do it all!
Aside from her role as presenter on TVNZ’s Sunday and Marae programmes, she’s an ambassador for Pillars, which supports children whose parents are in prison, and Endometriosis NZ – a cause close to her heart because she has the condition and went through her own difficult fertility journey.
Miriama also mentors young Maori journalists and is collaborating on a pukapuka (book) project that will see popular mainstream books translated into te reo Maori. And she is even writing two books, a cookbook and one about Matariki.
“If you think I’m busy, my husband is busier,” the award-winning journalist laughs. “We both have a real sense of service, but it’s a conversation we’ve been having lately because there’s not much use in doing all of this if we aren’t focused on being knitted together strongly ourselves.”
