OPRAH'S TV TRIUMPH: Harry & Meghan break down

In her 40-plus years as a broadcaster, Oprah Winfrey has done some groundbreaking interviews with pop stars, politicians and iconic public figures. But her “intimate chat” with Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, is the pinnacle of a phenomenal career that has made her one of the most powerful women in the world.

And according to her close friend Gayle King, Oprah reckons the session with the royal pair, during which they make some remarkable revelations, is her best-ever interview.

Gayle, who is the host of This Morning on CBS, the network screening the special, said, “I’ve heard from reliable sources – this is Oprah talking – that it’s the best interview she has ever done, so I’m curious. That’s saying something.”

Gayle, 66, also revealed that Oprah, 67, had been given permission to ask Meghan and Harry anything she wanted, and that nothing would be off-limits. So, Oprah did not hold back, asking the pair probing questions such a if they had been silenced by the royal family.

It has also emerged that Gayle herself played a key role in Oprah landing the interview of a lifetime, which has been two years in the making.

TV insiders say Meghan originally tried to arrange a talk with Gayle, who she knows well, after her son Archie was born in May 2019. She hoped to do a short interview about royal life and becoming a mother, but the public relations team at Kensington Palace shut that down. According to sources, they feared Meghan doing an exclusive interview with her US pal would alienate British media
