He probably thought he was doing his bit to show how much he cares for his grandmother. But Prince Harry’s comment about how he’s making sure the Queen is protected has backfired on him, with royal commentators calling him “deluded” and “arrogant”.
During an interview with US TV host Hoda Kotb while in the Netherlands for the Invictus Games, Harry, 37, talked about how he and wife Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, 40, had stopped off in the UK and visited Her Majesty.
He said his grandmother was in good form, but added, “I’m making sure she’s protected and has the right people around her.”
His words caused an uproar, with royal biographer Tina Brown responding, “It was a really deluded remark and I’m sure it sent the rest of the family off a ledge. Charles, Anne, Edward and William must be hopping mad. This is unbelievably arrogant to the rest of the family.
“Where was Harry for the Queen during the pandemic? Where was he for the Queen during the poignant waning days of Philip? Where was he for the Queen at Philip’s memorial service?”
Royal editor Russell Myers said Harry’s comment left palace courtiers “dumbfounded”, and they were “deeply damaging and insulting to his grandmother and senior royals around her”.
