For a while there, it felt like 2021 was going to be a relatively normal year. There was that glorious summer when we’d waved off the kids to music festivals over Christmas and New Year. Auckland basked in the glory of the America’s Cup yacht racing – those futuristic yachts battling it out on the beautiful WaitemataÌ„were a sight to behold.
I bought a diary and started blocking out dates – the first weekend of March for a party in Hamilton with old school friends, the middle of March is Horse of the Year in Hastings, I booked flights to travel to see the family and I pencilled in a couple of dates for conferences later in the year.
And finally, I got to MC the Highlands Motorsports Park awards. I’d been booked to do them twice last year and both times I’d been thwarted by lockdowns. But this time, Josie, who runs the park, and I felt confident we’d be able to give the Highlands members an awards night to remember.
