When I was 11 months old, a candle fell and set my dress on fire while I was sleeping. By the time my mother Evelyn Sekhu rushed to pick me up, half of my right hand had fallen off. The bones in my skull were visible, and my ear had burnt off. During my recovery in hospital, four of my fingers fell off, I couldn’t breathe through my nose and could only consume liquids as my mouth was also burnt. Even though I don’t remember the incident, I’m subconsciously afraid of fire.
