I often visit the spectacular Kogelberg Nature Reserve between Betty’s Bay and Kleinmond with my family, and we’ve driven past the Houtema River Cabins on the banks of the Palmiet River many times on our way into the reserve. I kept a close eye on the construction of these two eco-friendly units on private land and googled them as soon as the sign went up.
But it was too pricey and my husband objected to the lack of a real braai – there’s only a gas braai because the risk of fire is so high in the area. We could save up, but what is a weekend away without crackling flames? So instead, we always camped at the Palmiet Caravan Park in Kleinmond.
